Depending on when you are reading this article, the 2016 campaign season is either drawing to a close or Election Day (November 8th – get out and vote!) has passed and our state and country are moving forward, as we always do.
Campaigns and elections are characterized by candidates with different visions of where they want to take us, and by passionate supporters who work hard to make that vision a reality by turning out to vote for their preferred candidate. Election Day represents validation for the winners and their supporters; and prompts introspection, and often frustration, for the losers and their supporters.
What does Election Day mean for Minnesota REALTORS?
Elections have consequences; and which party controls the State Senate and State House matters greatly with respect to the many policy, tax, and budget issues of importance to REALTORS® and homeowners that will be decided at the Capitol over the next two years.
It is also true that one of our strengths as an organization is our emphasis on “REALTOR® Party” issues that are not tied to a particular candidate, political party, or election outcome.
Minnesota REALTORS® work to protect, promote, and advance homeownership opportunities at the State Capitol. Democrats and Republicans can work together on important issues related to homeownership, and Minnesota REALTORS® are always prepared to work with legislators on both sides of the aisle to advance the interests of Minnesota’s current and future homeowners.
The Minnesota REALTORS® Governmental Affairs (“GA”) Committee, made up of volunteer members from across the state, develops and approves our legislative agenda and provides direction for Minnesota REALTORS® lobbying activities.
As a member of the Minnesota REALTORS®, you are represented at the Capitol by your Governmental Affairs (lobbying) team. Our job is to support your success by advocating on your behalf at the Legislature and with regulatory agencies.
Your Minnesota REALTORS® Governmental Affairs team is honored to represent you at the State Capitol, and we look forward to working with you to advance the REALTOR® Party agenda in 2017!
The Minnesota REALTORS® is the largest professional trade association in the state with more than 17,000 members who are active in all aspects of the real estate business.
