Q: What is asbestos and where is it found?

A: Asbestos is a mineral fiber and can be found in residential and non-residential buildings. It was used through the late 1980’s. Some asbestos containing products include:

  • ceiling tiles and panels
  • ducts
  • flooring materials
  • sheet rock
  • plaster
  • spackling compounds
  • wall coverings
  • caulking and putties
  • electrical cloth
  • fireproofing materials
  • insulation
  • paints and coatings
  • roofing shingles
  • thermal taping components
