Everyone knows about Twitter, but many haven’t embraced this fast-growing messaging tool for business purposes. There is so much potential if you just get started and use your tweets wisely. For those of you brand-new to Twitter, here are the basics.
When you create your account, you’ll need to decide your Twitter name, which is how people will tag you in tweets and how you will make yourself known on Twitter – so choose your name carefully! For business purposes only, you may want to choose a name that fits you and your business. Add your picture or an image/logo and fill out your profile completely, including a link to your website. All this information can help you become more recognizable to your followers.
Learn Twitter terminology and find out what will work best for you – like, what’s the best way to use keywords, filtering tools, hashtags and Twitter lists. This takes time, so plan on investing some energy figuring what others are doing, and what you hope to do with your Twitter account.

Use Twitter to get to know potential clients better and for others to get to know you. Keep your content 80% news and conversational/relevant information and 20% sales oriented.
Use Twitter to tastefully position yourself as an expert in the area, but remember quality over quantity – don’t over-do it! Don’t tweet just to tweet – plan it carefully and manage your messages.
As with all communication mediums, don’t forget that you are a professional – use proper grammar and check your spelling carefully.
