Minnesota Real Estate Realtors lake homes

Holly has been a REALTOR® for 7 years, serving the Brainerd Lakes area. She specializes in residential re-locations and lake home properties in Minnesota. She says the market in her area is stabilizing thanks to improved consumer confidence and a drop in inventory levels. Holly also believes in the power of social media. She procured a $1.5 million property trade from a Facebook post! If you’re just starting out in real estate in Minnesota, Holly has three pieces of advice:

  • Find a mentor in your area who is willing to teach you.
  • Ask questions.
  • If something doesn’t seem right, then it probably isn’t.

Here are some more questions we asked Holly – about being a REALTOR® and a little about herself and her hometown.

What value do you get from the REALTOR® Organization?

Brand recognition, public awareness campaign, up to date forms, legal hotline, professional standards, quality education programs, excellent lobbyists and government affairs, code of ethics and last but not least, one of the most powerful and dynamic trade organizations in the country working on behalf of their members.

As it relates to real estate, what’s the importance of monitoring political activity at the local, state and federal level?

It’s a very important part of our business. Not only will decisions on the Hill affect property rights, but our income as well. This is a very good reason why each and every REALTOR® should be a member of RPAC (Realtor Political Action Campaign). $50/year is such a small contribution when you look at the big picture.

If you didn’t have to join the REALTOR® Organization in order to obtain MLS services, would you still be a REALTOR® member?

Yes. MLS is a service to facilitate cooperation between agents and the ability to disseminate information through a feed. Being a REALTOR® is so much more than that.

What’s a must-do for someone visiting your community for the first time?

Turtle Races in Nisswa every Wednesday at 2PM, fishing on Gull Lake followed by dinner at one of the lakeside establishments.

If “Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives” were to visit your community, where would they visit and what would be served?

The Barn” on Washington Street is unique to our area and they serve “Maid-Rite” sandwiches and homemade pie with meringue a mile high! It is worth the wait.

Who are your favorite writers?

Right now I read a lot of Dr. Seuss — I have a 4 year old.

Which words or phrases do you most overuse?

If you continue that behavior, you will be in a time out!

What is the best thing about Minnesota?

The lakes, of course!

What’s the best television series?

Cake or pie and your answer’s favorite kind.

Both — Carrot Cake and Coconut Cream Pie.

What car did you drive in high school?

A red Toyota truck.

Favorite quote?

The husband is the head of the family, the wife is the neck. Neck turns the head!

Any hobbies?

I have Arabian horses and I enjoy competing in horse shows around the country.

What are you most happy doing?

Traveling with my husband, playing with my kids and showing Arabian horses.

What is the most valuable thing you’ve learned from your parents?

Be true to yourself and live by the golden rule.
